Principal Investigator Professor Nigel Laing at The Centre for Medical Research in collaboration with Molecular Discovery Systems (MDSystems) have been awarded a grant titled: "In vitro drug screening: re-activating cardiac actin to treat skeletal muscle actin disease".
MDSystems envision that the work funded by this grant will be brought to fruition by the involvement of our sophisticated high-content screening and development facility located at Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR).
MDSystems is able to perform drug screens in tissue culture systems with the core technology being the InCell Analyzer 1000 (GE Healthcare). The IN Cell Analyzer 1000 is a high content screening platform designed for the rapid throughput and analysis of cell culture screens in multiple-well formats and is similar to that used in pharma for large-scale drug screens. Therefore it is ideally suited to the proposed screen of off-label drug effects that up-regulate cardiac actin in the Flexor Digitorum Brevis (FDB) culture system.
MDSystems has a background in high through-put, high content screening assays.
